The 22nd of April Earth Day is celebrated and around the world actions are being taken in favour of the environment. At Proyecto DCR the children made colorful signs with messages such as "I want a clean planet", "Take care of our park" and "Parents, I want to live, don't contaminate the environment". After that we went down to clean the park, collect recycling and post our signs in various places around the park. We did also plant four avocado trees that the organization had recieved as a gift.
The Hensley family from USA came to visit us on the school. They brought lots of clothes and school supplies that they had collected. Thank you so much for your help!

The vegtables that we planted in January had grown a lot and in the beginning of April we harvested potatoes and radishes together with the children.

The last day before the Easter vaccation we went on an excursion to the Planetario of Quito. A guided tour taught us more about the planets and our solar system. After that we went on a journey to outer space... An adventure that was very much appreciated.

In the end of March Malin Ottosson arrived to Quito with her camera. She spent a few days in the school filming the kids. All of them got to perform something in front of the camera and answer some questions. With this material Malin will help us put togehter a short film about the school.
In March, Helena Eriksson came to the school to work with the oldest kids in a photo project called "Kids' perspectives". The objective of the project is to teach children to use the camera as a way of expressing themselves. During three weeks the children learned about photography and took a lot of pictures that were presented at an exhibition in the end of the month.
Caroline Persson arrived to Quito the 1st of March to work as volunteer for 4 months. Two weeks later we said goodbye to Sandra Azima, who had been with us for 5 months, the volunteer that has stayed the longest period at Proyecto DCR.

Marcelo Torres came to the school every Thursday in January and February to hold workshops in painting. As a final project the kids painted one of the walls on the patio. The result can be seen on the picture!

Nina Lund, a student from Skarpnäck folk high-school made her internship at the school. During three weeks she worked as a school janitor and helped us fix and repair the premises and the patio.
In the beginning of February we went on an excursion to Jardin Botanico. At the Jardin we visited an exhibition of colorful exotic fishes and took part in a workshop about energy economizing.

Christmas was celebrated during a whole week in Carcelen Bajo. First we got a visit from a group of young people that entertained the children with a clown show and games. They brought food, Christmas gifts and bags with candy to everyone. Another day the children from the kindergarden San Felipe Neri came by to sing Christmas songs and distribute gifts. The Alfaguara visited us and played with the children, handed out food boxes and arranged an exchange of Christmas gifts. The neighbours of the school also came on a visit and brought pizza and clothes. The grand finale of the week was a Christmas party for all the children and their parents, all together we were 70 people. The Lopez family donated turkey and Christmas food to the party that was a great success. The children performed a theatre and dance-show that they had practised during workshops the weeks before.
