Project RESPETO

The Respect portion of the organization is where we make sure all our work is done with respect for the environment and society we work in.

 

This includes working to make the society more conscious of environmental issues and provide the children in our schools with a greater knowledge of how they can improve their local environment.

 

Recycling

In 2009 we started with a plastic recycling project in Quito, a city where the environmental work not yet has developed. The children in our school got the assignment to collect and bring all the plastic that was thrown away at home so that we could take it to the recycling plant. The first week we got collected and recycled 30 kilos and went with two of the children to the plant so that they could see how the work was done.

Today we are collecting plastics from a number of schools and restaurants around Quito and we have invested in a machine to compress all the plastic and make it a bit easier to handle. The money we get from the recycling is a symbolic sum and we use it to invest in other projects. One of these has been to buy seeds that the children planted during the last semester. The idea was to teach them in a practical way how nature works and how vulnerable it can be.

Organic Farming

The next environmental project that we are planning is to start an organic garden together with the parents to our children. This way they get a chance to support them selves and we can all learn more about organic gardening.
